Here in Ballymore National School, we understand the importance of
having respect for and taking care of our environment. The
presentation of each “Green Flag” to Ballymore National School is
the result of a huge effort by everyone in the school – pupils, staff
and parents on ways to better care for the environment.
Congratulations especially to members of “The Green School
Committee” who co-ordinated the programme and kept us all on our
toes as we work towards achieving each Green Flag.
We recognise the importance of recycling and conserving energy at
school and the following are ways in which we try, on a daily basis, to
take care of the environment.
• put out lights when not in use
• keep doors closed to conserve heat
• use both sides of a page
• not to keep taps running or dripping un-necessarily
• recycle our lunch left-overs into different containers
• use of compost bins
The whole school community is involved in the Green Schools Project
with classes taking part in various environmental competitions and
projects on a regular basis on a local and national level.
With a focus on recycling and energy saving in the school here is a
few examples of the things we do daily to help care of the
environment.
• Turning off the light when it’s not needed
• Closing doors to retain heat
• Using both sides of paper
• Saving water
• Recycling your lunch using the different bins provided
• Composting.
As a school we frequently enter local competitions and complete
projects based on the environment and we discuss environmental
issues in the classroom on a regular basis.
We are continuously trying to find simple ways in which we can be
kinder to our environment. As a community we are now working
towards our fifth green flag where the emphasis is on biodiversity.
Well done to everyone, children and staff included who help us keep
the school green!
